Domestic Violence and Child Abuse There is a much needed reason for my passion to stand up against, the horrible crime that is so silent and looked down on. Not only from a personal experience but as well from what I have witnessed the damage to those who have survived it or the loved ones that were left behind from experiencing it firsthand. It appears that anymore the news is reporting more and more these kinds of cases. What we all forget is the innocent, the children who are the victims of witnessing the violence against the other parent. Damage is done to their emotional health that they carry with them through their adulthood. I was informed at a gas station; the only crime against a child is not spanking the child when they need it. When I speak of Child Abuse I am not discussing an occasional spanking, or discipline for the miss behavior. I am discussing burning, sexual, beatings, emotional abuse, total neglect, locking in closets, and I can go on with more list of abuse that would make us very sick to read. This crime has been going on for centuries but we must wake up and stop continuing to hide our heads in the sand. Every day now it appears once again we are hearing more and more of this bull crap about parents, torturing our children, when I say our children, it is in some way our because these children will touch us in some way in the future. When an adult is put in prison, we have all heard that there is a pecking order, when they get word that a prisoner is coming in for child abuse, pedophile, do you recall what happens to those prisoners? So, if a hard core criminal does not take it why are we so taboo about voicing against child abuse? I have on both of my trucks, brochures, and website voiced my opinion about both crimes for many years now, that we must stop!! I have two stories to share with you; these stories are based on a true story, one for each crime. They are very close to home. I could share more but it is not necessary. A beautiful child was born June 1913; her name was Thelma, she had an older sister, by the name of elsie. The teenage years came; her sister 14 and Thelma 13. She saw her sister stand before her with a shot gun hole in her stomach, at the kitchen sink. Her sister fell to her death, leaving behind a suicide note stating, “Daddy, you don’t have to send me away, I will send myself away.” With a song playing on the record player, which to come it was her favorite. Being the oldest sister, she knew where her daddy was going to send the girls. Thelma later found out, her daddy sent her to the fibble minded institute in Cincinnati for the remaining teenage years. You ask, where the mother was, she was as well sent away when the girls were 11 and 12 years of age. The girl’s father always sent the girls from Ohio to Kentucky. They never knew where they were going to lay their head, or where they were going to get their next meal. This next story is about another teenager who repeated the cycle, but not because her parents did, but because of what was going on in her life as she grew up due to medical reasons, that was out of her control. Her parents did all they knew at those times in the 60’s and the 70’s. Self esteem and self respect was not a common vocabulary word, so much other society issues were going on and mental health was basically just touching the service when it came to teenagers, children, and women issues. |
